Adams HopperAdams Hopper
I had been tying some Adams dry flies for a competition and some hoppers for my own use.
When I had finished I had some bits and pieces left on my tying desk , so I combined the 2 patterns to come up with this light coloured hopper that seems to work quite well at Lullingstone.

Take the tying thread down the hook and tie in the Olive Marabou, the rib and the olive Hen hackle by the tip. Next expose the core of the olive chenille and tie in.
The chenille is brought 2/3rd of the way up the shank and the waste removed, the hackle is then palmered up to the same point and the waste removed , the rib is the wound forward in opposite turns to the hackle.
The thorax cover is then tied in, then the olive Fritz. Wind about 3 turns of the Fritz forward to the eye and then bring the thorax cover over the Fritz , the head is then whip finished and varnished.
Ralph also uses an all black version late in the season.
